Reporting in on week 3 - morning pages didn't go so well again. I'm shooting for 5 pages this week. I did do 99% of the exercises, though.

Artist's Date - came down with a bug and didn't get to the skating rink like I had planned, but later in the week I found myself at the mall and decided to take some time to walk around and to catch the flute choir concert at the bookstore. The concert actually brought up some issues with me - I began my music career as a flutist/music educator playing in pit orchestras and wound up in a car accident that screwed up my lip (even with the seatbelt.) After a few months of "rehab" with my flute teacher, I got frustrated and quit, which was "ok" (?) as I was getting leads in local musicals and sang in a couple of opera choruses. It's only been recently that I've felt the pull to play again - my voice teacher doesn't like me to, as she's afraid I'll go back to singing with a flute embouchure. I also don't want to do anything to screw myself up. Does anyone play a wind instrument while singing (opera) full time? I'm not trying to do both professionally, but I wouldn't mind playing again as a hobby, so to speak.

Back to check in - my synchronicity was pretty neat - a teacher for whom I was scheduled to sub a half a day (my temp job) cancelled on me at the last minute. My very next phone call was one of the high school voice teachers to have me cover the whole day for him. The extra money is great, and I was able to spend the day helping the high school voice majors prep for the annual state solo competition.

I've also decided to keep up with my list of "tiny things to change" and fit in a couple of extra visits to the nursing home where my grandfather and great aunt live. Another mini "artist's date" in itself, as my biggest fans are there and are the ones that have asked me to come do a "real" recital - art songs and everything, so most of my grad recital will serve double duty. It will be a real change from the jazz and country music (and my Richard Rodgers cabaret or Jeanette MacDonald retrospective) that usually gets played. I'll even be singing in Russian for them and am including a Spanish zarzuela aria that I've been working on, as one of the ladies residing there only speaks in Spanish anymore (or wants to - who knows. I'd be doing the same thing in her boat, I think!).

The only real problem I have is the reading deprivation. I don't quite know how to make it through that exercise!
